Dutch leading greenhouse manufacturer rates in the global top 1% regarding ESG Risk Rating

Naaldwijk, The Netherlands, June 9th 2022. BOAL’s Controlled Environment Agriculture (CEA) products play a pivotal role in the transition to reduce the ecological footprint in food production. The company itself is also working hard on its own sustainability goals. Recently BOAL has further tightened its ESG strategy, including being assessed by a leading independent rating agency.

Nowadays, responsible and transparent business operations is the only way to convince customers, employees, and other stakeholders that a company is delivering on its sustainability promise. Therefore, independent ratings offer support to compare on where a company stands, related to this topic.

The BOAL Group is immensely pleased to announce that in April 2022 it has received an ESG Risk Rating¹ of 7.2 from Sustainalytics, a Morningstar company. BOAL not only has the best rating of all companies in its category (building products), but also was assessed to be number 38 of the almost 15.000 companies rated by Sustainalytics worldwide. In addition, BOAL is the highest ranking Dutch company on the overall list.

ESG front runner in horticulture

“We are very proud to have obtained such a great rating from Sustainalytics. Every day our staff is dedicated to ensuring we deliver on our ambitious Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) commitments,” says Adri Pols, CEO of the BOAL Group. “This rating confirms we are in fact true front runners in the important field of ESG within horticulture.”

The Sustainalytics extensive rating process is linked to all three dimensions of ESG. For the Environmental topic focus is on reducing CO2 emissions and reuse of materials, for the Social component on human capital development, health and safety and for Governance on robust programs, practices and policies to prevent non-conformities. “On all topics we scored very well by having the appropriate procedures and mechanisms in place, meaning a fantastic overall “negligible” score as the outcome of the ESG Risk Rating.” states Stefan Eggers, who led the rating project and will continue to be responsible for sustainability at BOAL.
