BOAL Group welcomes Chinese entrepreneur Jack Ma at World Horti Center

28 October 2021

BOAL Group, a globally leading provider of aluminium roofing and sidewall systems and key components for high tech greenhouses based in the Netherlands’ Westland horticultural region, proudly welcomed Chinese entrepreneur, investor and philanthropist Jack Ma at its demo booth in the World Horti Center in Naaldwijk.

The co-founder of Alibaba and his team visited the World Horti Center (WHC), to find out more about the technological and organisational factors that contribute to the great success of the Westland region as a globally known hub for the horticultural and agricultural sectors.

As part of his tour of European businesses and research institutions in the horticultural sector, Mr. Ma and his team visited BOAL’s demo booths in the WHC. He was particularly interested in the applications of greenhouse technology for further developing Northern China as agriculture and horticulture region to meet the country’s rapidly increasing demands for sustainable food production.

Arable land is limited and has in fact plateaued worldwide around the year 2000, while the world population, and with it, its food consumption continues to increase. High tech greenhouses provide an efficient and effective solution to expand food production further while significantly limiting water usage and allowing growers to better cope with the impact of climate change.

BOAL is at the forefront of this trend: As a globally leading expert for the international Controlled Environment Agriculture (CEA) sector, BOAL offers its customers an extensive and innovative selection of products and integrated solutions. From complete aluminium greenhouse structures with integrated insect netting and ventilation solutions to insulated storage areas, climate screen systems or even individual greenhouse parts. In addition, BOAL has a unique position in the value chain with its in-house aluminium extrusion capabilities, which has again proven to be a key differentiator in the current environment of base material shortage.

Furthermore, BOAL’s strong partnerships with greenhouse builders, allows the company to supply growers with customized, ready-to-build solutions all the way from concept and design to finished project.

“We are very happy about the opportunity to host Jack Ma at the BOAL booths in the World Horti Center”, says Ronald Boers, CEO of the BOAL Group, “With the World Horti Center, the Westland region has created a unique ecosystem of experts that perfectly encapsulates what makes the region thrive as a horticultural hotspot: Technological excellence and collaboration. We are very proud of what we have achieved and even more proud of the international recognition it receives. Jack Ma’s interest, particularly in BOAL’s leading greenhouse technology solutions to support the growing food demands of China’s population, only reinforces that. We are happy to support Mr. Ma in pursuing this interest and potential steps resulting from it in the future”.
